Gospel is More Than Music

The film places gospel music in its social and political context, and underscores the importance of the genre to the African-American community. Gospel music has celebrated faith and raised spirits even during the bleakest of times.

Aside from providing the sheer joy of listing to so many inspiring performances, the film gives you a great backgrounder on gospel's evolution, as well as its social role and impact. The story is fascinating. Rejoice and Shout should really be required viewing for music lovers and for anyone who would like to be in the know.
