Nominations in Nonfiction Categories for the 2011 Emmy Awards


Yes, the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences recognizes excellence in nonfiction programming and Emmy Awards are presented for several categories of nonfiction programming. As with the Cinema Eye Honors for Nonfiction Filmmaking, the Emmy Awards nonfiction categories cover specific skills in nonfiction production, such as direction, cinematography, writing and others. However the Emmy Awards make no distinction between documentary films and reality shows. So, in all Emmy Awards nonfiction categories, independently produced documentary films that have been broadcast on television, as well as network-produced documentaries and reality shows are competing with each other for the same award. The 2011 nonfiction categories and nominees are:
