
The Alliance of Women Film Journalists (AWFJ) has presented its 2012 EDA Award for Best Documentary to filmmaker Malik Bendjalloul for his charming and soulful Searching for Sugar Man.
Additionally, AWFJ members bestowed the EDA Award for 2012's Outstanding Achievement By A Woman In The Film Industry to five women documentary filmmakers with outstanding nonfiction features that opened theatrically during 2012. They are:
- Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady for Detropia
- Alison Klayman for Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry
- Sarah Burns for The Central Park Five
- Lauren Greenfield for Queen of Versailles
The Alliance of Women Film Journalists is a nonprofit association of leading women film journalists from across the U.S., Canada and the U.K. The organization presents EDA Awards during the year end awards season, and throughout the year at select film festivals in the US., Canada and the U.K.
