Presently soliciting submissions, the Grierson 2012 British Documentary Awards are open to nonfiction films made anywhere in the world, but to be eligible, the documentaries must have had their first United Kingdom screening during the qualifying period from May 1, 2011 to April 30, 2012.
Organized by the Grierson Charitable Trust, the British Documentary Awards are presented in ten categories.
The deadline for submissions is June 1, 2012.
A documentary may be submitted for more than one award category. However, a fee of 195 British Pounds Sterling, plus tax (about $377 in total) is charged per film, per category. Consider that to be the price of prestige!
There are, however, two exemptions: the Newcomer and Student Film categories do not require submission fees, and each of those awards is presented with a cash prize of 3,000 British Pounds Sterling (or about $4834).
The British Documentary Awards are presented in a high profile ceremony in November.
