The Broadcast Film Critics Association (BFCA) presented the Critics Choice Movie Award for Best Documentary to George Harrison: Living in The Material World, Martin Scorsese's comprehensive chronicle of the former Beatle's life and tribute to his accomplishments.
Olivia Harrison, who produced the film and asked Scorsese to join her in the project, thanked the director for his deep understanding of her late husband's perspective, and the integrity of his approach towards preserving and carrying on his legacy through the documentary.
The Best Documentary award was announced by Leonardo DiCaprio, who also presented Scorsese with the Critics Choice Award for Music and Film, honoring the director for his extraordinary body of work, including both narrative and documentary features in which the close relationship between music and film has been highlighted.
The Critics Choice Movie Awards in all categories, including Best Film and all the other bests in narrative filmmaking, were presented in Los Angeles at the Hollywood Palladium on January 12, 2010, and broadcast live on VH1.
In full disclosure, About.com's Hollywood Movies Guide, Rebecca Murray, and I are voting members of BFCA.
