Okay, so you can't vote for the actual Oscar -- or maybe you can. Either way, please take a minute to express your opinion about which nominated documentary should take home the golden statuette.
Should it be the snarky and celebrity-driven Exit Through The Gift Shop, the alarming and environmentally conscious Gasland, the unveiling of economic malfeasance in Inside Job, the emotionally harrowing war chronicle of Restrepo, or the artsy and inspirational Waste Land?

Restrepo deserves this award in honor of the soldiers who were killed during that deployment!
Restrepo should win because it was the only one that didn’t start out with an agenda or a political axe to grind. It was a pure and simple chronicle of our country’s warriors and their daily struggles — something less than 1% of Americans ever experience but pay for every day with their tax dollars. It’s one of the very few “documentaries” that actually documents something without injecting an opinion. Most modern docs are little more than a cleverly edited attack movie about the director’s personal sacred cow.
RESTREPO for the win. No agenda. No spin. It lets the story tell its self and the viewer draw conclusions. It is very powerful and deep. Having been to Iraq in year 8 of that war I can tell you that the camaraderie is very real. These guys aren’t faking it for the cameras. Most of the time it seems that they’ve forgotten that they are there. This is storytelling at its rawest, purest, truest form. If you haven’t seen this amazing documentary, please do before you vote. You can watch it on Netflix. It will change you.
I actually saw restrepo and gasland. both are great and i can’t choose between the two. and gasland was not politically motivated, if anyone has actually seen it, it’s full of facts and personal experience and the real life experiences of others. it brought a lot of much needed attention to a huge problem that people should care about. and of course restrepo was excellent for many reasons, and the book was great as well. i’m having a hard time choosing between the two.
The 173rd is my brother’s unit. He said Restrepo was a excellent medic, and brave during combat.
GASLAND for the win. GASLAND is huge over here as well as in the UK. It changed my life I now am fighting the same “Fracking crap” in my back yard.
Gasland should win, because it exposes the corruption of governments, when they will destroy the land, the water, people’s lives – all for money. This tells of the genuine journey of one man, to try to find out about gas mining, and fracking – and I believe it will revolutionise how people view this illegitimate industry.
I didn’t see Restrepo or Gasland, but Exit Through the Gift Shop was the best movie I saw last year.
I think it is time that the true American Heros win and get the recognition they deserve instead of the hollywood heros. All the documentaries are good in their own way but I think is says a lot when two regular guys voluntarily risk their lives to document what it is really like to be in a combat zone. This movie was not made with the intentions of winning awards, but if doing so gets the word out about what our soldiers go through to keep this great country free then so be it. RESTREPO for the win!!!
Gasland is a story of one man trying to find out what is going on with an industrial process that has been invading our homes. There was no agenda to start, but as the story develops an agenda becomes imperative.
When you know the truth you must take a stand. Or else what are you?
“Gasland” deserves the Oscar. Clearly, many in America are clueless about what the shale gas industry is doing to the land we all live on, the air we all breathe and the water we all drink. The film is raw and real. It’s serious business and for those of us living with it and seeing it unfold in our backyards day by day…we are truly devastated to see all the hype about the virtues of “natural gas” and horizontal, hydraulic fracturing. Were it not for Josh Fox, this issue would still be behind the curtain. The Oil and Gas Industry is lobbying hard to prevent this documentary from winning the Oscar and even want it withdrawn from contention. Somebody hit a nerve.
Clearly, the O&G Industry doesn’t like the truth to be told.
