Mark your calendars now with reminders to watch the four great documentaries airing on PBS' Independent Lens, Tuesdays at 10 PM EST:

  • Unmistaken Child - Nati Baratz follows the Buddhist monk who sent to find the reincarnation of a recently deceased Lama, and bring the child to live in a monestary where he will train to become a religious leader. The film gives us a profoundly moving glimpse deep into the physical and spiritual landscape of modern-day Tibet. Airing on April 7.
  • Blessed Is The Match - Roberta Grossman profiles poet Hannah Senesh, the modern-day Joan of Arc who, at age 22, parachuted into Nazi-occupied Europe, trying to save the Jews of Hungary from being transported to concentration camps and the death houses. Airing on April 13.
  • Dirt! The Movie - Inspired by William Bryan Logan's book, Dirt! The Elastic Skin of the Earth, filmmakers Bill Benenson and Gene Rosow reveal how industrial farming, mining and urban development are behind the current cataclysmic droughts, floods and climate change that are causing starvation and population displacement. Airing on April 20. This is a must-see companion to Food, Inc., which is currently available on DVD.
  • Garbage Dreams - Filmmker Mai Iskander takes us to Egypt, where on the outskirts of Cairo, the Zaballeen (Arabic for garbage people) community lives in the world's largest garbage city, earning their living by collecting trash and recycling 80 percent of it -- far more than any other recycling initiative in the world. But, now, the government has hired a multinational corporation to pick up Cairo's trash, and the Zaballeen are losing their traditional way of earning a living, and the world is losing its best recyclers. Airing on April 27.
