Don't trust the obituaries to capture the essence of Dominick Dunne, the Vanity Fair editor whose brilliant coverage of trials -- including the trial of the man who murdered his own daughter, Dominique Dunne, as well as the trials of OJ Simpson, Claus von Bulow, the Melendez Brothers and William Kennedy Smith, the nephew of the late Ted Kennedy -- made reading him a must.

Dunne, who died of cancer at age 83, is the subject of Kirsty de Garis and Timothy Jolley's finely crafted documentary, Dominick Dunne: After The Party. Completed in 2008, the film is an almost-up-to-date account of the life and career of the talented Mr. Dunne, the Hollywood bon vivant who became an Oregon recluse as a means to fight his addictions and other issues that haunted him. Dominick Dunne was fascinating, and so is this documentary with its stranger-than-fiction twists and turns. Watching the film is a great way to get to know Dominick Dunne better and to memorialize him. For starters, watch the trailer.
