From July 31 to August 20, NYC's IFC Center presents DocuWeeks, the International Documentary Association's annual showcase of new works that are thought to be worthy of early Oscars buzz.

Now in its 13th year, DocuWeeks presents weeklong theatrical engagements of documentary films to help them qualify for Academy Awards consideration in Documentary Feature and Documentary Short categories.

Since the program was initiated in 1997, DocuWeeks has showcased more then 130 short and feature-length films. Sixteen of the parogram's participants became Oscar nominees and seven of those were Oscar winners -- including Smile Pinki (2008) and Taxi to the Dark Side (2007).

Check the 2009 program and schedule for the list and descriptions of the 18 feature-length documentaries from the U.S., U.K., Norway, Australia and Russia, plus an international program of shorts. Many of the filmmakers will be present at screenings to discuss their work.
