Two terrific and timely documentaries are current attactions on the Sundance Channel:
- In For The Bible Tells Me So, filmmaker Daniel Karslake probes the Bible for its teachings about homosexuality by telling the stories of five devout families who're trying reconcile their discovery that a relative is gay or lesbian with their religious beliefs. - Jason Kohn's funny and frightening Manda Bala (Send A Bullet) takes us to Brazil, where desperately poor people kidnap rich folk for ransom so frequently, cottage industries--defensive security devices and plastic surgery to reconstruct severed ears, for example--have sprung up to service the victims.
