Demme Replaces Scorsese on Bob Marley Doc
Sunday May 25, 2008
Those who love Martin Scorsese's approach to music docs--such as the recent Rolling Stones concert film, Shine A Light (2008) and No Direction Home: Bob Dylan (2003), among others--may be disappointed to know that the director, citing scheduling conflicts, has quit the official Bob Marley documentary, set to be released on Feb. 6, 2010, to celebrate what would have been the reggae singer's 65th birthday. Scorsese is still attached to direct a George Harrison documentary that's supposed to be released in 2010.
The Marley project has been picked up by director Jonathan Demme, who--like Scorsese--helms both dramatic features and documentaries. In previous music-related projects, Demme has worked with Neil Young (Heart of Gold, 2006) and Bruce Springsteen (Complete Video Anthology, 2001), among others. The Marley doc's scheduled release date remains the same.
