Molotov Alva: Doc Set in Cyberspace?

Saturday April 5, 2008
Premiering on Cinemax Reel Life on May 15, 2008, Molotov Alva And His Search For The Creator: A Second Life Odyssey is the first-ever documentary set in a virtual reality. Director Douglas Gayeton follows the fictitious character named Molotov Alva as he tries to define his self-identity and find the meaning of life in Second Life, an online community that claims some nine million residents (users).

In my review, I point out that this film virtually challenges the definition of nonfiction cinema and, in doing so, raises some interesting questions regarding truth and reality. But can it really be categorized as a documentary film? Or does it establish a new genre of documentary filmmaking? What do you think?
