"Man is capable of doing diabolically bad things during wartime," says Ted Leonsis, producer of Nanking, a documentary film about the massacre of 200,000 Chinese civilians by Japanese soldiers who occupied that city during World War II."But what makes our movie so important is that we also show that humans are capable of the most extraordinary heroism," he continues, referring to a German businessman, an American medical doctor and an American women educator, among other Westerners who established an international safety zone, where they saved thousands of innocents from slaughter, mutilation and rape.
