Awards Watch: Sicko Wins Gotham For Best Documentary

Wednesday November 28, 2007
And the 2007 Gotham Award for Best Documentary goes to Michael Moore's Sicko.

Presented by the New York-based indie film IFP, the Gothams are the awards season's first trophies.

Also nominated for the 2007 award were The Devil Came On Horseback, Jimmy Carter Man From Plains, My Kid Could Paint That and Taxi To The Dark Side (Alex Gibney's latest film, which won't be released until January!).

Sicko and Taxi To The Dark Side are also on the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences' short list for the 2007 Oscar.

Sicko's Gotham win will surely stimulate the Weinstein Co.'s campaign for a second Oscar for Mr. Moore, who previously won the 2003 Academy Award for Best Documentary for Bowling for Columbine.
